Baccarat has a fancy reputation and almost no decisions. You bet on Banker, Player or Tie. The dealer deals by fixed rules, the hand closer to 9 wins, and you never touch a card. Tens and face cards count as zero, aces as one, and only the last digit of a total counts, so 7 plus 8 is 5.
That lack of decisions is exactly why it is popular with high rollers. There is nothing to get wrong except which bet you pick, and the maths on that is settled.
At Duel you play baccarat on the live floor, with real dealers streamed from providers like Evolution and Pragmatic Play Live. It is not a Duel Original, so Zero Edge does not apply. Rakeback does.
The three bets, with real numbers
| Bet | Wins | Pays | House edge | After 50% rakeback |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Banker | 45.86% | 0.95:1 | 1.06% | 0.53% |
| Player | 44.62% | 1:1 | 1.24% | 0.62% |
| Tie | 9.52% | 8:1 | 14.36% | 7.18% |
Standard eight-deck baccarat. A Banker or Player bet is returned on a tie.
Banker wins slightly more often, which is why the house takes 5% commission on it. Even after the commission it is the cheapest bet in the building.
Player is fine too. The gap to Banker is small.
Tie is where the house eats. 8:1 looks juicy until you notice that a tie happens less than one hand in ten and the fair price would be about 9.5:1. Even with rakeback it costs you more than thirteen times what Banker does.
No Commission tables
No Commission baccarat drops the 5% on Banker wins, except when Banker wins with a total of 6, which then pays only half. Sounds better, is slightly worse: the Banker edge goes up to about 1.46%. You are paying for cleaner payouts, not better odds. If you are grinding, the classic table with commission is cheaper.
Side bets and Lightning
Live tables come loaded with side bets: Player Pair and Banker Pair (the first two cards are the same rank), Perfect Pair, Dragon Bonus and more. They are fun and they carry a much higher house edge than Banker or Player, usually several percent and often over 10%. Treat them as a lottery ticket you buy on purpose.
Lightning-style tables add random card multipliers in exchange for a fee on every bet. The multipliers make for great clips. The fee means the main bets cost more than on a standard table. Check the paytable before you sit down.
Strategy: the short version
- Bet Banker. Or Player if you like. Not Tie.
- Ignore the scoreboard roads and streak patterns. Each hand is dealt from the shoe with no memory of the last one in any way you can use.
- Martingale does not fix a negative edge. It just makes the loss arrive all at once. Table limits finish the job.
- Flat bets keep you at the table long enough to enjoy it, which is the point.
Duel has no welcome bonus to play through here. What you get is 50% of the house edge back instantly on every live baccarat bet. On Banker that takes your real cost to about half a percent, which is about as cheap as a live casino game gets. More on rakeback on our bonuses page, and the rest of the live floor on the live casino page.
The downsides
- Live baccarat is not provably fair. It is real cards on a stream, licensed and regulated, but you cannot verify it with seeds.
- Zero Edge does not cover live tables.
- Hands are slow compared with digital games. Speed tables help.
- Crypto only, and Duel is not available in the US, UK and several other countries.
If it stops being fun, step away. See our responsible gambling page.
