Duel Arena Sudoku: Rules, Difficulty and Timers (2026)

Short version: Sudoku in Duel Arena is a race on one shared puzzle. Both players fill the same grid so that every row, column and 3×3 box holds the digits 1 to 9 once, and the first correct grid wins. You see your opponent’s progress but never their digits. If the timer runs out, more correct cells wins, and equal counts are a tie with stakes refunded. You can pick Easy, Medium, Hard or Expert and a 3, 5, 10 or 30 minute timer. We read the rules panel and tried the free mode, but we did not play for stakes.

How Sudoku Works in Duel Arena

Both players get the same puzzle and race to solve it. Fill every empty cell so that each row, column and 3×3 box contains the digits 1 to 9 exactly once. The first player to complete their grid correctly wins.

Winning, Ties and What You Can See

Situation Result
A player completes a correct grid first That player wins
The timer runs out The player with more correct cells wins
Equal correct cells when time ends A tie, and stakes are refunded
What you can see of your opponent Their progress, never their digits

Because correct cells count when time runs out, a half-finished correct grid beats a fast but wrong one.

Setting Options

What a Match Looks Like

The demo screen: a 9×9 grid with starting digits, Note and Erase tools, undo and redo, and a 1 to 9 number pad.

The demo shows a standard 9×9 grid with the starting digits already placed. Above it are Note and Erase tools plus undo and redo, and below it a number pad from 1 to 9, with a countdown timer in the corner.

Practice Before You Stake

  1. Run Play Demo on Medium to see how long a puzzle takes you against the 5-minute timer.
  2. Use Note for candidates and Erase to fix mistakes without losing time.
  3. Prioritise correct cells. If the clock expires, the player with more correct cells wins.
  4. Check the stake and any fee in the lobby before playing for money; we could not find a published Arena fee.

Niko’s Degen Take on Arena Sudoku

Degen take

Sudoku racing is a trap for the overconfident. Everyone thinks they are quick until the timer is running and the other progress bar is creeping up. The tiebreak is the interesting rule: if the clock runs out, correct cells win, so a wrong cell is worse than a blank and guessing is how you lose.

Same puzzle, same clock, zero luck, which makes it a pure skill read. Either you have it or you are donating. The speed gap between a solver and a casual is huge, so I would keep stakes at peanuts until you have timed yourself on Medium in Play Demo.
